GT NOMINATION WINDOW 9/21 -10/2
The identification process for the gifted program at Kiker Elementary School is set to begin. The process includes several steps: nomination, screening, and selection. Information considered in the decision includes parent/guardian observations, teacher input, collection of a portfolio of student work, and standardized assessments. The GT nomination and assessment window will only happen once this year. Students who are already identified as GT do not need to be reevaluated. Students identified as Talent Explore may be re-nominated for GT identification.
Please also note that the nomination process is time sensitive. All nominations are due by 10/2 at 4:00. For more information, you are invited to attend a parent/family session via Zoom on September 29 at 5:00 pm.
Register for the Zoom link by filling out this form. Thank you! To nominate your child, please complete the observation checklist below and email (or drop off at school) attention firstname.lastname@example.org.

Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to be screened for Gifted and Talented (GT) and Talent Explore (TE) through the nomination and screening process. All campuses in Austin ISD provide the screening, identification, and services for students who are identified.
Talent explore identification is for students who demonstrate high abilities, but did not qualify for gifted and talented identification. Students who earn the identification of talent explore demonstrate high abilities and potential and are served with access to gifted and talented activities.
Students may be identified through the screening process in one or more of the following areas:
GT STEM (Science And Mathematics)
GT Humanities (Language Arts And Social Studies)
Talent Explore STEM (Science And Mathematics)
Talent Explore Humanities (Language Arts And Social Studies)
The GT Campus Advocate at Bernice Kiker Elementary is Cory Matheny. She will provide information prior to the nomination and screening process each year.
